Edward S. Frohling

Edward  S. Frohling was born in Princeton, New Jersey in 1924 and served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Europe during World War ll. He received his B.S. Metallurgy, 1948 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA and started work with the Atomic Energy Commission as a Research Engineer. In 1949, he joined the Climax Molybdenum Company, Birmingham, AL as a Field Sales Engineer advancing to regional Sales Manager by 1962. In 1962, he joined the Parsons-Jurden Corporation as Vice President and Manager of Business Development Mining and Metallurgy Division.

In 1969, he formed and became President of Mountain States Mineral Enterprises, Inc. (MSME), a major U.S. engineering-construction firm serving the mining industry. He and his company have been recognized with cover stories in three national magazines and he is a frequent spokesman on behalf of the mining industry. Under his leadership, MSME was instrumental in installations of processing facilities in copper, molybdenum, uranium, gold, etc., throughout the world and especially in Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, Australia, Saudia Arabia, Yugoslavia, and the United States. In its August 1976 issue, Tucson Magazine designated him "Industrialist of the Year."

Many of his professional accomplishments and volunteer activities have been honored, including recipient of the 1982 Charles F. Rand Memorial Gold Metal Award of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers; recipient of the 1975 Distinguished Citizen Award of the College of Mines and the Alumni Association of the University of Arizona; a Distinguished Member for 1979 by the Society of Mining Engineers of the American Institute of Mining Engineers (AIME).

He was named "1975 Man of the Year" by the Tucson Advertising Club and was appointed by the Secretary of the Interior to the Advisory Committee on Mining and Research.

He was a member of the Tucson Airport Authority and was on the Industrial Advisory Council for the College of Engineering and  the College of Business and Public Administration.

He was Treasurer of the Arizona Association of Industries and a member of the Board of Directors, the 1983 National President of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Washington, D.C. and was a Governor of the American Mining Congress Manufacturers Division.

Frohling’s affiliations include membership in the Society of Mining & Metallurgical Engineers (Past Director), Tucson Country Club, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Old Puebleo Club, University Club  of New York and MIT Club of Tucson.
